1
DRAW FORMAT — MATCH DAY

Match day draws — turn every fixture into income

Sunday-league rugby is a clubhouse culture — match day 50/50s sold at the bar before kickoff and drawn at half-time fit naturally into how supporters already gather.

The 50/50 fundraiser — split the pot, fund your cause

Tactical tips

What works for this sector

The specific levers PFW hosts in this sector pull to outperform — drawn from real campaign data.

Clubhouse-first matchday

Unlike football, most rugby club ticket sales happen in the clubhouse — before kickoff, at half-time, after the final whistle. QR codes at the bar outperform turnstile sales for almost every Union club.

Six Nations is non-negotiable

Six weeks of guaranteed national engagement. Even small clubs raise £300–£1,500 over the Championship. Run it every February.

Junior section parents are your top converters

Mini & youth parent networks have the highest engagement rates of any rugby fundraising audience. Build them a dedicated channel.

Tour fund campaigns work brilliantly

Senior tours, junior tours, anniversary trips — concrete goals with deadlines. Cause-specific draws raise more than open-ended fundraising.

Don’t neglect the alumni network

Rugby clubs have unusually strong alumni cultures. Old players give monthly to a recurring supporters’ club at higher rates than current parents do.

FAQ

What this sector asks us most

How does rugby fundraising differ from football fundraising?
Three big differences: rugby is more clubhouse-driven (sales happen at the bar, not the turnstile), Six Nations creates a guaranteed national fundraising window every February–March, and rugby alumni networks convert at much higher rates than equivalent football alumni networks. Formats are similar; channels and seasonality differ.
Do we need a licence?
Most rugby club fundraisers run as Small Society Lotteries (£40 council registration) or as free prize draws with a free-entry route. PFW configures to fit. We are not Gambling Commission licensed.
What about clubs across both Union and League codes?
Same formats work for both. League clubs tend to do more match day 50/50s (closer to football cadence); Union clubs lean heavier on Six Nations sweepstakes and tour fund cause-specific campaigns.
Can our minis & juniors section run its own fundraiser?
Yes — many clubs run a separate junior-section monthly draw alongside the senior club fundraiser. Robin can configure separate ledgers so the funds stay ring-fenced for junior team needs.
How does fundraising during the long off-season work?
Monthly 50/50s and 100 Clubs are designed exactly for the off-season — predictable income with no fixtures. Many clubs find off-season raises 40–60% of full-season match day income for almost no committee effort.
Are we tied to a specific brand or competition format?
No — PFW is not affiliated with the RFU, RFL, ECB or any named competition. Formats are generic UK fundraising mechanisms that work alongside your club’s own competitive structure.
