2021 – Our Year in Review

Our team talk you through their highlights of the year, and what they’re most excited for in 2022!

2021 has been a big year for Play Fund Win. We launched our revolutionary digital fundraising platform in May – just seven months ago.

We’ve come a huge way in that time. From our first draw at the Events Production Show in aid of Stagehand, through to our stadium-wide draw in front of 60,000 people at the Etihad Stadium for Manchester City’s CITC club foundation – the scale of what we are doing, and the funds we are raising for good causes continue to grow.

Our website has underseen some radical changes in this time, many of which have been undertaken behind the scenes but have been integral to getting us to where we are now. We’ve also refined our marketing output, providing bespoke promotional materials for every cause we support – big or small.

However, it’s safe to say that the biggest highlight across the board is the fantastic team which we have built and will be looking to expand in the New Year. And on that subject, who better to talk you through our highlights of 2021 and what each of us are most excited about in the coming year than #TeamPFW…

Dan – CEO/Co-Founder

Highlights of 2021:

2021 has been a year with many highs for me – both personally and with Play Fund Win.

The first was the arrival of our little boy, Logan, the most smiley little dude you could ever wish to meet! The second is that Play Fund Win is alive and kicking.

I’m extremely proud that we’ve been able to bring our offering to market in 2021 and have already seen hundreds of grassroots clubs benefit from what we are doing. My final highlight is the team we have brought together. I have always surrounded myself with good people throughout my career and the team we have assembled for Play Fund Win are simply the best!

What I’m looking forward to in 2022:

In the New Year I’m most excited about our expansive development plans, starting with a significant recruitment drive in 2022. If we are half as fortunate with our new hires, as we have been with our hires to date, then we are set to give Play Fund Win the best possible opportunity to build on our successes to date.

On a personal level, I’m really excited to shift my focus from being in the business, to being focussed on being on the business, and looking at how we can best continue our growth through new market opportunities and international expansion. I’m also extremely excited to hear of more and more success stories from clubs and the ways they are putting the funds raised from draws to good use.

Steve – Chief Relationships Officer/Co-Founder

Highlights of 2021:

Attending the 2021 Challenge Cup final at Wembley and seeing our draw come to life visually around the stadium. Knowing that this was the culmination of a huge draw that benefitted over 130 community rugby clubs across the UK is one of my many proud moments in our first year.

What I’m looking forward to in 2022:

As a Co-Founder, I look forward to our imminent recruitment drive and watching our team grow and embrace the culture that we are building. As we grow, we will be driving the business forward to new heights and working towards our goal of raising millions for great causes throughout the UK. Here’s to the first million milestone!

Dean – Chief Technology Officer/Co-Founder

Highlights of 2021:

It was a massive achievement seeing Play Fund Win at Challenge Cup Final at Wembley earlier this year, and then at the Etihad Stadium for the 35th anniversary celebration of City in the Community. Both were massive milestones for Play Fund Win and a testament to the whole team for making these happen.

Following on from this it’s been amazing to work with an incredible team of people and getting to know them more personally has been a big highlight. Seeing how well we have navigated as a remote team through some really interesting times has been testament to having awesome people!

What I’m looking forward to in 2022:

I’m really looking forward to the new features we will be adding to the platform, and the technology we are looking to roll out to help more clubs and organisations to raise essential funds. We will be launching new tools and features – so watch this space, as we keep you posted with behind the scenes sneak peeks!

A big thing for 2022 is growth. We have seen a big increase in hosts and interest in working with us with a very large number of organisations planning to be onboard in January. I’m looking forward to working with these organisations on ways of integrating our platform into their systems, and seeing the impact of the funds raised.

James L – Head of Operations

Highlights of 2021:

Taking Play Fund Win to the Premier League with Manchester City, working with the Premier League champions to deliver a stadium-wide draw that raised a five-figure sum for a mental health programme run by City in the Community. The CITC team were really supportive, and it was great to test the platform at scale, I look forward to supporting many more clubs at all levels in 2022.

What I’m looking forward to in 2022:

Rolling the platform out to more grassroots clubs and causes, and building on their feedback. We’ve made a number of tweaks to the platform already, based on requests from clubs and it’s really exciting to develop new features which will provide a direct benefit to our users, helping them raise even more money for their cause or chosen charity.

James C – Head of Marketing & Communications

Highlights of 2021:

Supporting causes close to my heart. Providing financial support to causes is exactly why Play Fund Win exists. I’ve loved speaking to so many charities, sports clubs and venues in 2021 – but being able to support two charities who I benefitted from myself in the past year was a genuine privilege. Lymphoma Out Loud and Something to Look Forward To are two amazing causes, and I hope we will be working with them again in the New Year.

What I’m looking forward to in 2022:

Reporting and automated asset creation for draw hosts. I can’t wait for us to be able to put these tools in the hands of our draw hosts so they can continually monitor their draw’s performance and react to this accordingly. We know that not everyone is graphic designer – so making the process for our hosts to promote their draws effectively, as easy as possible, is something I’ve been really pushing for in 2022!

David – Business Development Manager, Sports

Highlights of 2021:

Joining the team at Play Fund Win and getting to work with a number of sports clubs to help them to raise vital funds they look to recover for the setbacks of COVID-19. I’ve been involved in sports for the last 15 years at all levels and I’m passionate about grassroots sports thriving. Joining Play Fund Win offers clubs a fantastic, genuine opportunity to raise money.

A personal highlight would be seeing our branding on live TV when one of our clubs, St Albans City, featured in the FA Cup, beating EFL side Forest Green Rovers.

What I’m looking forward to in 2022:

We are looking to grow and expand the team in the early part of the year and I’m very excited to be involved in growing the business and shaping its future. This will allow us to work with and support more clubs across all sports at all levels. This is exciting for me as I want to see as many clubs take advantage of our platform and to generate revenue for themselves in a challenging financial climate.

Kyle – Business Development Manager, Festivals, Events & Entertainment

Highlights of 2021:

For 2021, my biggest highlight has been partnering with some fantastic charities, brands and venues to help raise funds for themselves as good causes – or the charities which they as draw hosts care about the most.

Getting to work with Moovin Festival to raise funds for the Cheshire Wildlife Trust, The Great Northern Warehouse in Manchester to raise funds for Forever Manchester and so many others, have got things off to a great start this year.

What I’m looking forward to in 2022:

In the New Year I am particularly excited about building on the successes from 2021 and developing the line-up of event and festival organisers, and curating a stream of fundraising initiatives with them which span the length and breadth of the UK. 2022 is sure to be a great year.

Liv – Operations Executive

Highlights of 2021:

I’ve really enjoyed working behind the scenes with a range of draws for sports clubs and events. My personal highlight was working with City in the Community for their 35th Anniversary draw. They had some amazing prizes available and were able to get the support of the club and players too. The result was a promotional video, social media posts and exclusive prizes! One of the best parts of my job is contacting winners with the news that they’ve won –  I can’t think of a better way to spend my day!

What I’m looking forward to in 2022:

I’m really looking forward to watching Play Fund Win expand in 2022 and see how we grow. We have an absolutely amazing team ethos, and will be great to share that with more people. We’re looking at expanding to include apprenticeships within the operations and marketing departments and it will be great to see how we can expand on our offering with their input from their course knowledge. Hopefully they will really benefit from their time with us too. I always think that continuing to learn is so important, and you should never stop just because your formal education does. Nor should it be determined by your age or experience!

Matt – Marketing Intern

Highlights of 2021:

My highlight of 2021 was having the opportunity to work on a range of social content, helping to promote some fantastic draws for the likes of charities, foundations and sports clubs!

What I’m looking forward to in 2022:

In the New Year, I’m most excited about the organisations we will be able to positively impact through our digital platform. I can’t wait to work with the team to promote the exciting draws we have in store for 2022 and help showcase the positive work we do at Play Fund Win!
